Himax HX6537-A09TDIG: WE-I Plus Always-On Vision Processor for TinyML
The Himax HX6537-A09TDIG belongs to the WiseEye WE-I Plus family. Inside the 72-pin 8 × 8 mm QFN is a Synopsys ARC EM9D DSP core running up to 400 MHz with an FPU, about 2 MB of on-chip SRAM, four 12-bit ADC channels and a 1.8–3.6 V I/O supply range.
The part was designed for always-on computer vision at very low power. Hardware accelerators for JPEG encoding and HOG feature extraction sit beside the DSP, so a low-resolution sensor such as the HM0360 can wake the system on a person, a gesture or a change in the scene, without a big application processor running all the time.
Typical designs include battery-powered doorbells, smart thermostats with occupancy detection, people counters and laptop presence sensing. TensorFlow Lite for Microcontrollers ports exist for the EM9D, and the SRAM budget is enough for small quantized CNNs when activations are planned carefully.
Board designers should pay attention to the MIPI or parallel camera interface timing, the crystal sources and the power sequencing between core and I/O rails. The exposed pad of the QFN needs a solid ground connection with thermal vias, even though dissipation is modest.
When sourcing, confirm the -A09 suffix against Himax documentation, because WE-I Plus derivatives differ in package and memory options. Compare with the HX6539 in LQFP if hand rework or wider pin pitch is required.
